Dalton Schultz surprised the fantasy football world last year when he went from a player who wasn't taken in most fantasy drafts to finishing as the 3rd highest scoring tight end. What made Schultz’s breakout so remarkable was how he scored his points. Usually when tight ends break out in fantasy it is because they caught a lot of red-zone touchdowns - not because their overall role in the offense significantly increased. However, Schultz's situation is different because the Cowboys made an effort to get him more involved in their offensive game plan, resulting in an increase in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.
Going into 2022 Schultz looks to become an even bigger focal point of the Cowboys offense. During the offseason, the Cowboys traded star receiver Amari Cooper and let Cedrick Wilson Jr. go in free agency, leaving 212 vacant targets in the offense. The only move Dallas made to replace these players was taking rookie wide receiver Jalen Tolbert in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft. Schultz is now cemented as the number two option behind CeeDee Lamb in the Cowboys passing offense, which led the NFL in both points and total yards last year. With an increased workload in one of the NFL's most explosive offenses, there is no reason why Shultz won't repeat as a top 5 fantasy tight end in 2022.
