Kyler Murray 2022 Fantasy Forecast

Updated: Jul 21

Kyler Murray finished the 2021 fantasy season as the 4th highest scoring QB in points per game. However, 2021 was a tale of two seasons for Murray as he averaged 24 fantasy points per game during the first 7 weeks of the season, but was the QB 17 over the final 6 weeks of the year when he averaged only 20 points per game. To make matters worse, Murray will be without star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for the first 6 games of the 2022 NFL season as he serves a suspension for PEDs. During his career Murray has averaged 25 total fantasy points per game with DeAndre Hopkins and 19 without Hopkins.

Despite all of the uncertainty surrounding Murray and the Cardinals’ offense, I am not worried about his fantasy production taking a major hit in the 2022 Season. Murray was an elite quarterback from a talent and efficiency standpoint last season. He finished 1st in the NFL in true completion percentage, deep ball completion percentage, and money throws (a statistic that counts passes that require exceptional skill or athleticism as well as critical throws executed in clutch moments). In addition, he finished 3rd in true passer rating, 7th in QBR and is one of the most effective rushing QBs in the NFL.

Despite losing Hopkins for part of the season, the Cardinals’ offense is still loaded with playmakers to support Murray. The Cardinals traded for Marquise Brown who is one of the NFL’s best deep threats and Kyler Murray's college teammate. In addition to the team re-signing AJ Green, tight end Zach Ertz will now have his first offseason with the team after the Cardinals traded for him midseason last year. Also, rookie Rondale Moore should be even better in his sophomore season. The addition of Brown and improvement among the rest of the supporting cast should be more than capable of making plays for Murray until Hopkins returns and the offense gets back to an elite level.
