"...let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up..." ― Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)

Hit The Drop Button
As we draft and manage our Fantasy team all season long, we put players on our roster that we think will score us points and benefit our team. Unfortunately, at some point, we realize that a particular player or two on our roster is not producing the way we thought they would, or the way they were earlier in the season.
When this happens to a player we used to really like or one we had high hopes would deliver consistent Fantasy points, we have a tough time letting go of them. As we think about the draft capital we spent on the guy, or the waiver-wire dollars we spent on them, or how they had that one huge performance in week 3 that helped us win a matchup, we struggle to hit the drop button.
Although that player hasn’t scored very many Fantasy points in weeks, we can’t get ourselves to move on. Other times, we keep a player on our roster who is injured and believe they will come back healthy, but the reality is they are taking up a roster spot, and it’s time to get rid of them.
Part of being a successful Fantasy manager is knowing when to let go of players who are holding us back and preventing us from having the best team possible. When we continue to let a player linger on our roster even though he has no business still being there, we miss out on picking up another player who would benefit our team much more.
If we want to win at Fantasy, we have to be willing to drop any player that is dragging our team down and replace them with someone better.
The truth is, this principle is essential to grasp in our own lives as well. What are the things we are hanging onto that are holding us back? What mindsets should we replace? What behaviors and sins need to be removed because they are slowing us down? In what ways do we need to "hit the drop button?"
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT) states, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”
As Fantasy managers, we want to score as many points as we can and win our matchups every week, and we don't want anything getting in the way of that.
As followers of Jesus, we want to live for Him, serve Him, enjoy His presence, and experience spiritual fruit, and so we don't want anything to get in the way of that. The more we keep our eyes on Him and study God’s Word, the more willing and able we will be to "drop" the things in our lives that hinder our thriving.
God’s way is best, so we need to get rid of anything that doesn't align with Him. We can benefit so much more by obeying Him and removing everything that’s lingering on “our roster” that has no business being there.
The following verses provide us with some specific areas we need to hit the “drop button” and get them off our “team”:
James 1:21(NLT) encourages us, “So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.”
Ephesians 4:31-32 (NIV) tells us to, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Colossians 3:8 (NLT) explains, “But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.”
For many of us today, we also need to be encouraged to get rid of all the worries and anxious thoughts that are consuming our lives and hit the drop button and let God pick them up instead!
1 Peter 5:6-7 (AMP) says, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time, casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].”
Thankfully, as we follow Jesus, walk in His grace, and rely on the power of the Holy Spirit within us, we can get rid of anything that doesn't benefit our lives and prevents us from living the way God has called us to. He is with us and is there for us and will replace what we let go of with more of Him and more of His wonderful blessings.
Today, let’s ask Him to show us what we’ve been holding onto and what’s been holding us back, and let’s trust Him to give us the strength to "hit the drop button", move on, and move forward as we live victoriously in Christ.
Heavenly Father, please show me what I'm holding onto that needs to be dropped. Thank you for Your grace and for Your willingness to help me and strengthen me, so I can get rid of anything that is tripping me up and preventing me from living the way You've called me to live. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

What player have you held onto too long this year?
What are the reasons you held onto that player for so long?
What player are you glad you finally dropped?
What finally made you realize it was time to drop him?
What are the things you are hanging onto that are holding you back?
What mindsets do you need to replace?
What behaviors and sins need to be removed because they are slowing you down?
What fears, worries, or anxious thoughts are you hanging onto?
What other ways do you need to "hit the drop button?"
How has keeping your eyes on Jesus helped you drop specific sins that previously slowed you down?
How has your life been so much more fruitful and freeing because Jesus helped you drop the weight and sin that were holding you back?

In 1950, Jim Hardy set an NFL record by throwing eight interceptions in one game. The very next week, he tied the NFL record for most passing touchdowns in a game―six.
