"I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken." ― Psalm 16:8 (NIV)

Taking Them For Granted

One of the core roles of a Fantasy Manager is having the proper perspective and view of each player in the NFL. That leads us to determine which players to draft, who to start, and who to drop.

Multiple factors are considered when it comes to our perception of what a player has done, and sometimes that means we appreciate them, and other times we take them for granted. Also, some players have more of our attention while others we overlook.

Our appreciation for certain players is heightened when they score the points that secure a win for us on Monday Night Football. We tend to keep them in our lineup moving forward because they came through for us in such a big way.

Some players on our rosters get more attention than others because they might be questionable every week, and we’re constantly checking on them to see if they'll play. We are so thankful to have them in our lineup when we get the notification that they are healthy and active for their game.

It’s easy for us to be more aware of any players from our favorite NFL team who are also on our Fantasy roster. Meanwhile, other players get more hype from Fantasy analysts and get talked about often, so we tend to notice them more as well.

The other reality we face as Fantasy managers is how certain players remain under the radar, and we don’t consider what they're doing as much.

Some players are overlooked because they play at times when we can’t watch their games, or because they play on a bad team we don’t care about. Their strong performances for our Fantasy teams can go unnoticed.

When we have star players on our team, we keep them in our starting lineup every week and, in some ways, don’t really pay them much attention. They are reliable high scorers, but we can easily take them for granted. We can even overlook their excellence if we aren’t careful, because we expect them to put up big points all the time.

Other players on our roster may not put up huge points, but they are consistent, always healthy, and give us a solid floor every week. These players are easy to underappreciate and overlook.

The truth is, we don’t know these players, and it doesn’t really matter whether we take them for granted or appreciate them. However, in our day-to-day lives, it absolutely makes a difference when we show others our gratitude, when we notice them, and honor them. We also want to be aware of them and have the proper view of them.

It’s so easy to overlook what people do for us, or not recognize their skills and gifts, or take for granted how they make our lives better.

Sadly, we can especially underappreciate those closest to us, like our spouse or parents, because we expect them to always be there for us and to be consistent. We think, of course, they should do nice things for me!

However, that’s the wrong attitude, because we want them to know how loved and appreciated they are, and that we notice who they are and what they do, rather than taking them for granted.

The Apostle Paul, in his letters to various churches, always made a point of expressing his gratitude. In Philippians 1:3 (ESV), he writes, "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you..."

In Ephesians 1:16 (ESV), Paul says, "I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers..."

Let's thank God for the amazing people He's put in our lives, and let's also thank them directly.

Unfortunately, we can sometimes struggle to appreciate and honor God, and we end up taking Him, His grace, and His love for granted. We overlook His blessings, fail to notice His work in our lives, and fail to acknowledge His excellence and power.

Of course, we should expect Him to do extraordinary things, but that doesn’t mean we take it for granted when He does or think that He owes us something. With humility and awe, we must be aware of His presence everywhere and recognize His goodness.

As 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV) puts it, "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever."

Let's not take for granted our next breath or heartbeat but view God and the life He's given us with gratitude. As followers of Jesus, let's not take for granted that we've been saved, transformed, forgiven, and have eternal life.

Let that lead us to praise and giving thanks as we declare Psalm 103:2-5 (NLT): "Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!"

In addition, we don't want to take God's Word, guidance, and direction for granted, overlooking His truth and everything we've learned, but rather to pay attention to Him and His ways. Hebrews 2:1 (AMP) tells us, "For this reason [that is, because of God’s final revelation in His Son Jesus and because of Jesus’ superiority to the angels] we must pay much closer attention than ever to the things that we have heard, so that we do not [in any way] drift away from truth."

To avoid taking others, especially God, for granted, we have to be intentional and aware as we remember what they've done and reflect in ways that stir up gratitude and love for them.

Heavenly Father, forgive me for taking You and Your grace and love for granted. Please help me not to overlook Your truth and drift away from it. Please help me recognize and appreciate people in my life and show them my gratitude instead of taking them for granted. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
