WEEK 16 BREAKOUT: WHO GETS THE GLORY?

Who Gets the Glory?
The Fantasy Football season is winding down, and as we reflect back on it, most of us experienced some level of success, whether it was a nice winning streak, a big comeback, the highest points one week, or maybe we finished first in the regular season or at least made the playoffs.
Ultimately, there will be only one winner in each league, and they will be the one going home with the trophy, the ring, the belt, and/or the respect of the rest of the league.
But whether we won one big matchup this season or end up winning the Fantasy championship, the question is, who gets the glory? How do we handle winning? Do we take all the credit? Did our Fantasy team win because we are just so smart and knew exactly what players would have big seasons? Do we tell others to look at us and our roster and see how awesome we are?
Do we really think our Fantasy team won solely because of our personal Fantasy knowledge? Are we relying on ourselves or on the players wearing helmets?
Are we saying, “Look at what I did,” instead of “Look at what my players did”? Are we forgetting that it’s actually the players on the field that are scoring Fantasy points? Are we shifting the attention to them or ourselves? Do we give the players their due, or are we pridefully thinking our Fantasy championship is all about us as a Fantasy manager?
Sure, we have a role in our Fantasy season’s success, but we must understand our limitations and dependence on the actual players on our roster. They deserve the glory for their touchdowns, yards, and catches.
It’s an amazing feeling to win a Fantasy championship, and we like to be recognized for our accomplishment, but let’s make sure not to hog all the credit. After all, we only dominated the “virtual gridiron” by just clicking some buttons on our phones and computers!
This concept of glory, credit, reliance, and dependence is also worth considering in all areas of our lives. (Even the NFL players on the field have to consider who gets the glory!)
As followers of Jesus, we choose to live lives of humility and surrender, knowing that we are totally dependent on God for not only our next breath of life but also for salvation and eternal life (through faith in Christ). He is the Creator, the Sustainer, and Lord of all.
Romans 11:36 (AMP) states, “For from Him [all things originate] and through Him [all things live and exist] and to Him are all things [directed]. To Him be glory and honor forever! Amen.”
Every day, including the seasons where we experience success and even during hardships, we have the opportunity to give God the glory, respect, and honor He is due.
1 Corinthians 10:31 (NLT) tells us, “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Colossians 3:17 (AMP) encourages, “Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
By God’s grace and strength, we must learn to shift attention and credit away from ourselves and move past self-reliance and the desire for praise. Instead, our lives should point others to Him and how He's working in us and through us.
Matthew 5:16 (AMP) says, “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Everything we have, every gift, ability, opportunity, and our next heartbeat comes from Him, so let’s live for His glory, giving Him all the credit for everything He enables us to do.
We have this encouragement in 1 Peter 4:10-11 (NLT): “God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God Himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to Him forever and ever! Amen.”
There's a role for us to play in this life, and God allows us to be a vessel for His purposes, but let’s make sure we give Him glory for that rather than being prideful about what we're doing.
Let’s also be encouraged not to rely on our own strength or attempt to be self-sufficient, but rather let’s live our lives in submission to the One who created us for His glory. He is worthy of all praise, honor, credit, and attention. He is magnificent, matchless, and all-powerful.
Let’s spend our lives telling others how great He is, instead of pretending like our “Fantasy Championships” and "trophies" in life make us great and worthy of glory! All glory to the One who empowers us, equips us, and saves us!

Heavenly Father, forgive me for my pride, self-reliance, and desire for my own glory. I know You are the One worthy of all glory and Honor, and I pray that my life would point to You. You are the Creator and the Sustainer. Please help me understand how I can do everything for Your glory. Thank you for rescuing me from sin and death. Please shine through me and help me live with a humble submission to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
