Pounding the Table

Every Fantasy Football season there are certain players we're really convinced to pursue in our Fantasy draft. If they end up on our roster, we're quick to passionately declare how amazing they are and that we're glad we selected them.

When we find a player we truly believe in and see what he can do for our Fantasy season, we have no problem "pounding the table" to let others know we're confident in him to deliver.

We "pound the table" and make the case for why that player will exceed everyone's expectations and why we think he's so great.

We defend any of the criticisms or questions that other people have about him and enthusiastically explain why he'll make such a big difference on our Fantasy team.

We announce our allegiance to him and how the hope of our season is based on him and what he'll do for our team.

Each season, there seems to be at least one player we can't help but "pound the table" for and talk about and tell others about our excitement for him.

But, what about in our own lives? What or who are we most passionate about and most willing to speak up and declare our allegiance for?

Truth be told, are we more likely to “pound the table” in an attempt to convince people of our political perspective…why our favorite NFL team is going to win…why a certain TV show or restaurant is the best…and why our parenting techniques are superior?

Or...are we willing to passionately (humbly and respectfully) “pound the table” to tell others why Jesus is the answer…how He’s changed our lives…why He’ll make a big difference in someone else’s…how much He loves us…how His Word is true…how we’ve seen His greatness…and why we so strongly believe in Him?

Hopefully, we are confident in who Jesus is and truly believe in what He’s capable of and why He (more than anyone or anything), is worthy to be the One we “select” to follow and surrender our lives to.

As a result, we are then led to speak up, declare our allegiance, and advocate for Him.

1 Peter 3:15 (ESV) gives us this encouragement: “…but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as Holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…”

By “pounding the table,” so to speak, we can boldly and enthusiastically declare as Paul does in Romans 1:16 (ESV), “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”

Today, let’s stand firm as Christ’s ambassadors and boldly share the Gospel. Let’s lovingly and graciously “pound the table” by telling others He’s the answer and the One we truly need. Our hope is in Him and we know He always delivers.

I'm Bryce Johnson, and you can UNPACK that!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me passionately and lovingly share the Good News of Jesus with those who don't know Him. Help me boldly and confidently declare how You've changed my life and why I so strongly believe in You. I pray I wouldn't be ashamed and I'd be prepared to defend why I'm filled with hope. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR FFF LEAGUES:

  1. What are you most likely to "pound the table" about?

  2. What has your experience been in regard to telling others about Jesus?
